Goal is the same in any language. Antoine Genee, vice-president of a business development for Softissimo, which produces translation software, met yesterday with staff from several departments. The federal government spends 164 million (Canadian dollars) on top of what it pays its own translation staff. Mr Genee as invited by Human Resource Development Canada to present his product to staff from Foreign Affairs and the translation bureau, among others. Statics Canada, Public Works and Quebec's natural resources ministry are already testing the software.

Making the Softissimo Sell A French software firm says its translation program is "la chose parfaite" for a Canadian government wanting to meet its bilingual obligations."The legal obligation of the federal government presents a fabulous opportunity for us," said Antoine Genee, vice-president of business development in Canada for Softissimo, a 16-year-old Paris-based company. The firm which has already made inroads with NATO and the European union, is considering opening a Canadian Office in Quebec and is launching a marketing push to make its products better known.
